Screenings & Events
MVH's Regional Cancer Center carries out many annual events and projects designed to limit the impact of cancer on our community through prevention, education and early detection of cancer. Community screenings and educational activities include:
Smoking Cessation Classes
Held at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays in May, August and November, 2017. Classes are free for MVH Primary Care Resource Center patients (PCRC), MVH staff, and those with referrals from MVH-affiliated physicians. All others pay $20 total. Reservations are required. Call the PCRC at 724-258-1932.
Better Breather's Club
Better Breather's Club is a free support group for adults with lung and breathing problems that meets the second Tuesday of each month in the hospital's Education Conference Center. Reservations are required. Call the PCRC at 724-258-1932.
Mamm & Glamm Breast Cancer Prevention Event
One of MVH's most popular screening events that includes a stress-free mammogram combined with a day of free pampering. The event will be held Sat. April 29, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at HealthPlex Imaging at the Monongahela Valley Hospital HealthPlex. Appointments are required. Call 724-379-1911.
The 2017 symposium will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center. Featured topics presented by national oncology experts include: Gastric Cancer Surgery, Lung Immunotherapy, Multiple Myeloma, Biosimilars: a new class of Biologics and OPTUNE: Increasing survival for patients with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Colorectal Cancer Education & Screening
A Colorectal Cancer Education & Screening is held annually. This year's event will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the hospital's Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center. The event is free, but seating is limited; pre-registration is required by calling 724-258-1333. A free take-home test will be given to all participants.A distinguished panel of physicians and medical professionals discuss the importance of early detection and regular exams. Each participant receives a free take-home colorectal screening kit.
Cancer Survivors Day Picnic
Held June 7, 2015, to celebrate our Regional Cancer Center's 30th Anniversary, nearly 500 people joined us to celebrate survivors, inspire those recently diagnosed, encourage survivors' families and remember those who lost their battles with cancer. This was a one-time celebration at MVH. See photos from our celebration and learn more about our 2015 event.
Free Prostate Cancer Screening & Education Program
Prostate Education and Screening Program is scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, 2018. MVH sponsors this free program that emphasizes the importance of early detection and provides free exams for participants as well as blood tests for the prostate specific antigen (PSA).
MVH/Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk
Sat., Oct. 13, 2018 at 10 a.m., Charleroi Market House, 423 McKean Ave., Charleroi. Join MVH staff, physicians, friends and neighbors walking to support the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer in our community at MVH. A $10 donation is suggested for those ages 6 and older. For more information, call 724-258-1657.
Annual Breast Cancer Education and Screening Luncheon
The 2018 will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. The program included presentations by Kathy Cameron, who will provide a survivor's perspective; A Breast Cancer Overview by Natalie Furgiuele, M.D., F.A.C.S., a discussion of Advanced Therapies by Shani Gunning-Carter, M.D.; and a presentation on Advances on Breast Reconstruction by Lori L. Lung Cancer Screening and Education Program
MVH is offereing a lung cancer program on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 and Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 6 p. m. at AML-ECC. Dr. Zahalsky, Pulmonologist Surinder K. Aneja, M.D., and Radiologist Adil Chaudry, M.D., will discuss all aspects of lung cancer including the screening process, interventions and therapies. To learn more, call 724-258-1333.
